My daughter cut the car’s brake lines. When the car skidded off the cliff, we

As the stretchers reached the top of the cliff, the chaos of the scene unfolded around us. The emergency lights cast flickering shadows, painting the rocks with an eerie glow. Police officers cordoned off the area, while paramedics hustled to and fro, creating a cacophony of urgent voices and rustling equipment. Through the thin fabric of the blanket, I could make out the faint silhouette of my daughter, Emily, still clinging to her act with unwavering commitment.

“Please, I need to see them!” she cried, desperation dripping from every word. Her voice rose and fell in a symphony of feigned grief, echoing against the darkening sky. The officers, however, remained firm, keeping her at bay as we were hurried into waiting ambulances.

Beneath the mask and blanket, anger and betrayal warred with my overwhelming sadness. How could she? Emily, our bright, promising daughter, who we had loved unconditionally. Memories flashed through my mind: her first steps, school recitals, late-night heart-to-heart conversations. Each recollection was a dagger, twisting deeper into the wound her actions had carved into our hearts.

The ambulance doors slammed shut, sealing us inside a sterile world of beeping monitors and urgent voices. The paramedics worked with practiced efficiency, checking vitals and stabilizing injuries. But even in this safe cocoon, my mind couldn’t escape the reality of Emily’s betrayal.

Tom lay beside me, his eyes closed, the pain etched deeply into his features. He had always been the stronger one, the protector. But now, he looked vulnerable, a man shattered by the cruelty of his own child. I reached for his hand, seeking solace in the familiar warmth of his touch.

“We’ll get through this,” I murmured, hoping my voice held more conviction than I felt. “She won’t get away with it.”

Tom’s eyes fluttered open, his gaze meeting mine. There was a glint of determination amidst the hurt, a silent promise that we would see this through together. “We have to be strong,” he replied, his voice a strained whisper. “For us. For justice.”

As the ambulance sped toward the hospital, the world outside blurred into a smear of lights and shadows. The realization of what lay ahead was daunting—a legal battle, the unraveling of family ties, the public spectacle of a trial. But beneath it all was a simmering resolve, fueled by the need to protect ourselves from further harm and to ensure that Emily faced the consequences of her actions.
