Weir’s journey began at just 17 years old when he co-founded the Warlocks in 1964. Alongside Jerry Garcia and Pigpen, the band soon evolved into the Grateful Dead, and Weir became one of the very few people to be at every single show.
Despite early creative friction that briefly saw him fired from the band in 1968, Weir quickly became completely irreplaceable. He possessed unusually long fingers, allowing him to play unique, complex chord voicings that few others could match.
