My stepdaughter, 12, is moving back to her dad’s house because her mom just died. Our house is small—just 2 bedrooms. I don’t want my daughter, 10, to share her room. So I said to my husband, “Send her to your mom’s. My kid’s comfort is priority.” He smiled.

Next day, I froze when I found my kid asleep on the floor. She had laid out a blanket, tucked her favorite stuffed animal beside her, and gave the bed to her stepsister.

She wasn’t upset. She wasn’t even trying to make a statement. She just did it, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
