I once believed love revealed itself in darkness, that devotion would kick in when it mattered most. That belief nearly cost me my life.

My name is Rachel Monroe. My husband, Andrew, was supposed to be my anchor. But the night our daughter was born, I learned how hollow attachment could be. At thirty-eight weeks pregnant, my first contraction hit like a tidal wave, stealing my breath and bending me forward.
