Thieves are using a simple tactic called the plastic bottle trick to steal cars and personal belongings. They wedge a plastic bottle between the front passenger-side tire and the wheel well of a parked vehicle.<\/p>\n
When the driver starts moving, the bottle crushes against the tire and makes a loud popping sound. Thinking something is wrong with their car, most drivers pull over to investigate the noise.<\/p>\n
Drivers often step out in a hurry, leaving the engine running or the doors unlocked. The thief then jumps into the idling car and drives off, or quickly steals valuables left inside the cabin.<\/p>\n
